If you get this error, chances are you trying to get Linux running in a VM using Virtual Box on Windows.  If you see this follow these steps:

  • VT-x is not enabled in the BIOS – Restart your computer and select the key required to enter your bios settings. ¬†Typically ENTER or F12 or something like that.
  • Hyper-V virtualization is enabled in Windows

If the first step is already set then use step 2 and enter this command at the DOS prompt as the Administrator:

dism.exe /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V

Reboot.
