Before trying to create a server using a Jacl script, it’s best to first understand what your node name is. ¬†Simply start up the server admin console and navigate to Environment | Websphere Variables. ¬†When you land on the home screen for that option, you will see the node name right at the top of the screen. You’ll need this value for Jacl to completely successfully.

Once that is complete, you can choose to run this Jacl via wsadmin in Websphere or you can create a shell or batch file script with the following contents:

set node [$AdminConfig getid /Node:myNodeNameFromTheStepAbove/]
$AdminConfig create Server $node {{name SomeServerName} {outputStreamRedirect {{fileName "PathToLogFile/SystemOut.log"}}}}
$AdminConfig save
